Bodypainting with Ancient Brit
Bodypainting is an ancient art, widely practised by primitive and aboriginal tribes in pre-
Christian days. In the times before paper was invented painting was restricted to rock-painting
or bodypainting. Bodypainting was particularly common among warriors about to go into battle.
The painting was either designed to get the favour of the gods or to make the warriors look
fierce to their enemies. Among the warriors using “war-paint” were the Indians of North
America, the natives of New Guinea and the Ancient Brits.
In western societies bodypainting fell out of favour, mainly due to the Christian influence, which
led to cultures where the naked body was seen as an evil thing. With a more enlightened view of
nudity in recent years, bodypainting is now making a revival. Face-painting is now
commonplace, particularly for supporters of national sports teams and is a popular activity for
children’s parties. Bodypainting came to prominence with the film “Goldfinger” and is now
frequently used by advertising companies. A small group of enthusiasts are trying to popularise
the activity in Britain and European and World championships have even taken place.
I am putting the photographs together under certain themes.
Paintings involving bodypainting and bondage combined are in the BDSM section of the website.
